Overview
Designed by MVRDV and opened in 2017, the Binhai Library is nicknamed The Eye for the glowing spherical auditorium at its heart. Terraced shelves sweep from floor to ceiling, doubling as stairs and seating, with capacity for about 1.2 million books. Photographs of the luminous atrium made it an instant internet landmark and a symbol of the new Chinese library boom.
