Overview
Christopher Wren designed this library for Trinity College, Cambridge, and it was completed in 1695. The single long room sits above an open colonnade that lifts the books clear of flooding from the nearby River Cam, and its oak bookcases carry limewood carvings by Grinling Gibbons. Treasures include early printed Shakespeare, books and a notebook belonging to Isaac Newton, and the A. A. Milne manuscripts of Winnie the Pooh. Visitors still read beneath the busts of college worthies that line the bays.
