Taking over the collections of the Advocates Library under a 1925 act, the National Library of Scotland is a legal deposit library with around 30 million physical items. It holds the John Murray publishing archive, letters of Mary Queen of Scots, and the personal libraries of Scottish writers, with reading rooms in Edinburgh and a moving image archive in Glasgow.
