Overview
Founded by royal charter in 1907 on a hill above the seaside town of Aberystwyth, Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru collects the written heritage of Wales in Welsh, English, and other languages. As a legal deposit library since 1911 it receives everything published in the United Kingdom, and its more than 6.5 million books are joined by vast archives of photography, maps, and Welsh language sound recordings.
