Overview
Opened with the new university in 1891, the Chicago system holds about 12 million volumes. Regenstein Library of 1970 was among the largest university library buildings in America when built, and the 2011 Mansueto Library added a Helmut Jahn glass dome over an automated underground storage system that retrieves millions of volumes by robotic crane in minutes.
