Overview
Seattles library system, founded in 1890, became world famous with the 2004 Central Library designed by OMA and Rem Koolhaas. The steel and glass diamond grid facade encloses the Books Spiral, four floors of continuous Dewey Decimal shelving, plus a light flooded reading hall. The 27 branch system circulates millions of items a year in one of the most literate cities in America.
