Overview
Organized in 1846 as the Hazine-i Evrak, the Treasury of Documents, the Ottoman Archives preserve the paperwork of an empire that spanned three continents for six centuries. Now part of the Turkish state archives in Istanbul, the collection of well over 100 million documents records everything from palace finances to provincial administration, written in Ottoman Turkish, Arabic, and Persian scripts.
