Overview
King Charles III gathered the documents of Spanish colonial administration into the old merchants exchange of Seville in 1785. Today the Archivo General de Indias holds about 80 million pages and 8,000 maps chronicling the Americas from Columbus onward, including his letters and reports of the conquests. UNESCO listed the building with the cathedral and Alcazar in 1987.
