Overview
Created by the revolutionary assembly in 1790 as the first national archive institution in the world, the Archives nationales preserve the records of France from the early kings onward. Housed in the Hotel de Soubise in the Marais and satellite sites, they keep the Declaration of the Rights of Man of 1789 among kilometers of state papers.
