Overview
Founded in 1792 as the archive of New Spain, the Archivo General de la Nacion moved in 1980 into Lecumberri, a panoptic art deco prison known as the Black Palace. Its kilometers of shelving hold colonial and national records, and the attached Casasola photo archive documents a century of Mexican history in hundreds of thousands of images.
