Overview
Serving one of the largest populations of any US public library system from its 1926 Goodhue Central Library, whose pyramid tower crowns the downtown skyline, LAPL holds over 6 million items. A devastating 1986 arson fire destroyed some 400,000 books and closed the building for seven years, leading to the 1993 restoration and the Tom Bradley wing with its soaring atrium and chandeliers.
