Founded in 1610 by the will of Archbishop Richard Bancroft, this is the historic library of the Archbishops of Canterbury and the principal library and record office of the Church of England. Its collections include illuminated manuscripts such as the Lambeth Bible and the Mac Durnan Gospels, the papers of archbishops, and records of the worldwide Anglican Communion. In 2021 the collections moved into a new purpose built library building in the grounds of Lambeth Palace beside the Thames.
