Overview
Built as the flagship project of the centenary of Finnish independence and opened in December 2018, Oodi faces the Parliament House across a public square in central Helsinki. ALA Architects wrapped the building in a sweeping timber facade and placed the books on a light filled top floor known as Book Heaven, while the floors below hold recording studios, 3D printers, sewing machines, game rooms and a cinema. The International Federation of Library Associations named it Public Library of the Year in 2019.
