Henry Clay Folger spent decades collecting Shakespeare, amassing 82 copies of the 1623 First Folio, about a third of all known copies. The 1932 marble building beside the Capitol was gifted to the American people and reopened in 2024 after renovation, with exhibition halls, a theater, and reading rooms for early modern studies.
