Overview
The first presidential library, conceived and partly paid for by Franklin Roosevelt himself, was dedicated at his Hudson Valley home in 1941 and handed to the National Archives. His model, presidential papers publicly owned and professionally kept, created the system followed ever since. The library holds some 17 million pages of documents alongside museum exhibits and the Roosevelts graves.
