Overview
Opened in 2002 to revive the spirit of the ancient Library of Alexandria, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is a tilted disc on the harbor front carved with letters from scripts of the world. It holds more than a million printed volumes with shelving for eight million, plus four museums, a planetarium, and manuscript and science centers. Its main reading room steps down like an amphitheater toward the sea.
