Overview
Founded by King Frederik III in 1648 and opened to the public in 1793, Denmarks national library collects all Danish publications through legal deposit. Its roughly 35 million items range from medieval Danish chronicles to modern digital deposits, and the 1999 Black Diamond extension, a polished granite wedge on the waterfront, doubled the public space with concert halls and exhibition galleries.
