Overview
Growing from the royal library of the French kings and open to scholars since 1692, the national library of France collects everything published in the country. About 40 million items fill the four glass towers of the Francois Mitterrand site and the renovated Richelieu palace in central Paris. Richelieu also houses museums of medals and manuscripts and its famous oval reading room, after a restoration completed in 2022.
