National Library of Norway
Oslo, Norway. Founded 1989.
- Type: National
- City: Oslo
- Country: Norway
- Founded: 1989
Overview
Established as an independent national institution in 1989, the library grew from collections of the University Library founded in Oslo in 1811. Its headquarters stand on Henrik Ibsens gate in Oslo, while a second site at Mo i Rana keeps legal deposit material in secure vaults cut into a mountain. The library launched one of the most ambitious digitization programs in the world, aiming to put all Norwegian published material online, and much of it can be read free of charge from within Norway.
