Overview
Founded as the Public Library of Buenos Aires in 1810 at the urging of revolutionary Mariano Moreno, it became the national library in 1884. The striking brutalist building in the Recoleta district, designed by Clorindo Testa and completed in 1992, houses over 2 million volumes, first editions of Argentine literature, and the personal libraries of Borges, who once directed the institution.
